BOTANICAL NAME: Fraxinus americana
ALSO KNOWN AS: White ash, Biltmore ash, Cane ash
RANGE: Eastern US and Canada
STRENGTH PROPERTIES: Ash has very good overall strength properties relative to its weight. It has excellent shock resistance and is good for steam bending.
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS: Machines well, holds well when nailed or screwed, glues well and can be stained to a very high quality finish. Ash is vey stable after drying.
AVAILABILITY: Readily available in 4/4, 6/4 and 8/4 thicknesses
USES: Furniture, flooring, doors, architectural millwork and moulding, kitchen cabinets, paneling, tool handles, baseball bats, hockey sticks, billiard cues, skis, oars and turnings.
